UPDATE

Don't yet humidity (or humility) hold you back.
Step out into July and be courageous...
pound the sidewalk with the best of them!

The TRU Actors Update 07/13

Thanks again to our wonderful casting editor Liz Burke.
And our hard-working associate editor Tiara Yong.
Actresses both, so they know what you're going through!

Thoughts at the beginning of July:

Courage is doing what you're afraid to do.
There can be no courage unless you're scared.
- Edward Vernon Rickenbacker

You've all chosen a courageous career.
Go with your instincts and follow your dreams.
We're traveling a beaten path so we can beat the odds.
(So don't take the city streets for granite.)

A) The "union" or "non-union" designation is at the start of the notices; and union is highlighted in red.

B) Have some quotable quotes? Send 'em our way. No really, send us your favorite quote or saying, or whatever inspires you. We mean it. Yes, we really do. Please send something. Because only crazy people keep talking to people who don't ever respond, right? And we're not crazy. Are we?

C) Peruse the last update's notices... ya never know.

D) Have you sized up the TRU Bi-Monthly Update? It has a few casting notices not listed here, as well as other job opportunities, workshops and discounted shows. Click here or go to www.truonline.org/Update0704.htm

DEAR TRU

"The reason I don't alway click the link is that I find many of your auditions listings I have already read through Backstage or Actors Access. There is a lot of repetition.

I also find it annoying how often you are sending the email. This week I received three email all with the same information and it's a holiday weekend. It's overkill. I think it would be more effective to send one email a week that people are expecting.

I also find your format very difficuly to read. I think only listing auditions that are current makes your email more valuable and easier to look through. Most of the out of date stuff, I have already seen weeks before in other resources.

Perhaps there is a way to make the general TRU email read or look different than the actor one. I did receive three different emails from TRU. I have erased them, so sorry I don't have more specifics. Even the general TRU email has a link to the actors announcement, so it seems like the same information to me.

Don't be disheartened because not many people open the link. It's easy to put your email address on a list. It's a lot harder to do the work to be a working actor. Not everyone is up for it. Or there are times, I won't be submitting/auditioning because I am busy with a current project.

I hope this feedback helps. I do appreciate your service and putting everything together." - Kate

[Editor's note: we haven't figured out why Kate received 3 emails from us. Did anyone else? We are only aware of sending out one a week, plus the regular Update every two weeks. We are addressing the "format" comment by deleting most previous postings, and instead of listing them under "In case you missed them, these might still be worth checking out" we are offering a link to the previous Update. Let me know if that works better (or worse) for some of you. Please do write and let us know what you need.]

ACTORS! NEED AN ACTING CLASS
THAT WILL PROPEL YOUR CAREER FORWARD?

New agent-taught series of classes, with $20 off for TRU readers! As an actor, are you frustrated by: Not being able to secure the audition appointments you know should be yours, not getting callbacks when you go to an audition, not feeling truly comfortable with your audition technique, not feeling truly comfortable with "cold reading" auditions, not finding monologues that suit you and your talents well, not finding monologues that are not already "done to death" by other actors, not finding a teacher who is well-versed in ways of helping you to achieve your career goals, not working with a teacher armed with a wealth of information, knowledge and experiences, willing to reinforce his thoughts and ideas with a veritable trove of anecdotal material, much of it gleaned from his own life and the lives of friends and colleagues? Then you are in luck! Lewis R. Chambers (who founded The Bethel Agency nearly 38 years ago and who has represented actors in all major media) plans a series of 3 or 4 classes during the months ahead. Classes are arranged in blocks of four each, meeting on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday evenings, as well as on Saturday mornings from 10 AM to 1 PM. Evening class hours are flexible -- some will begin at 6:00 or 6:30 PM, while others will, in all probability, begin at 7 PM, ending three hours later. Classes are basically scene study, monologues, audition technique, cold readings and, at times, a bit of improv. Informal meetings follow most classes, enabling students to learn more about the business part of their careers. Classes, of four meetings each, are priced at $180, with a non-refundable deposit of $100 to be paid ten days before the start of any skein of classes and the balance to be paid at the first class. For more detailed information, Mr. Chambers is reachable at 212.864.4510 or at either of two Email addresses: chambers_bethel@yahoo.com or BethelAgcy@aol.com
