The TRU Actors Update 09/12

Brought to you by our listings editor Liz Burke and
associate editor Tiara Yong...
both, every bit as cool as September!

Thoughts as we enter September:

To love what you do and feel that it matters--how could anything be more fun?
- Katharine Graham

Some people would say we're lucky we love what we do.
When the truth is, we do what we love, the rest is just bills.

A) The "union" or "non-union" designation is at the start of the notices; and union is highlighted in red.

B) The items with immediate deadlines are highlighted in green (for go!)

C) Inspire us with a quote so we can inspire others. What words of wisdom get you through the day? Please send us your favorites.

D) Peruse the last update's notices... ya never know.

E) Have you sized up the TRU Bi-Monthly Update? It has a few casting notices not listed here, as well as other job opportunities, workshops and discounted shows. Click here or go to www.truonline.org/Update0903.htm

DEAR TRU

A day without something learned is a day lost,
but the day most wholly lost is a day without laughter
~ Misti and her mom

[The "union" or "non-union" designation is at the start of the notices; and union is highlighted in red....] You really got away from this in the current issue for stage listings (and you've never been good about it for the film listings). A couple did not have union/non-union till the very end. Several did not have any classification at all (that I could find) so I assumed non-union.

How about you put union in red and non-union in green and since there's that extra step it will make you double check that the union status is indeed there for all projects and it's there in the first line. (Green means "go right away" seems sort of redundant.)

~Greg L.

[NOTE: I spoke with Liz and she tells me that many of the postings come to us without a union or non-union designation. But we will try to be more diligent.]

ACTORS! NEED AN ACTING CLASS
THAT WILL PROPEL YOUR CAREER FORWARD?

New agent-taught series of classes, with $20 off for TRU readers! As an actor, are you frustrated by: Not being able to secure the audition appointments you know should be yours, not getting callbacks when you go to an audition, not feeling truly comfortable with your audition technique, not feeling truly comfortable with "cold reading" auditions, not finding monologues that suit you and your talents well, not finding monologues that are not already "done to death" by other actors, not finding a teacher who is well-versed in ways of helping you to achieve your career goals, not working with a teacher armed with a wealth of information, knowledge and experiences, willing to reinforce his thoughts and ideas with a veritable trove of anecdotal material, much of it gleaned from his own life and the lives of friends and colleagues? Then you are in luck! Lewis R. Chambers (who founded The Bethel Agency nearly 38 years ago and who has represented actors in all major media) plans a series of 3 or 4 classes during the months ahead. Classes are arranged in blocks of four each, meeting on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday evenings, as well as on Saturday mornings from 10 AM to 1 PM. Evening class hours are flexible -- some will begin at 6:00 or 6:30 PM, while others will, in all probability, begin at 7 PM, ending three hours later. Classes are basically scene study, monologues, audition technique, cold readings and, at times, a bit of improv. Informal meetings follow most classes, enabling students to learn more about the business part of their careers. Classes, of four meetings each, are priced at $180, with a non-refundable deposit of $100 to be paid ten days before the start of any skein of classes and the balance to be paid at the first class. For more detailed information, Mr. Chambers is reachable at 212.864.4510 or at either of two Email addresses: chambers_bethel@yahoo.com or BethelAgcy@aol.com
