- part 2!
July's event was so popular, we did it again.
And no, it's not really a date. Just a way to meet some really helpful people.
A FREE event produced by Theater Resources Unlimited
in association with Precision Photos / 36th Street Studios

Speed Dating actors at left, Dating Sponsors on the right, back to front:
(Matt Jared from the Network, Paula Riley, Leslie Darhonsoff,
Kevin Urban and a bit of Jodie Bentley from TheSavvyActor.com)

Tuesday evening August 26th at 7pm
Precision Photos / 36th Street Studios, 260 W. 36th Street, 3rd floor

July was hot. August was hotter! A time to meet, mingle, eat, drink and network with us. And what's this about "Speed Dating"? Is this a fix-up? Nah, it's nothing romantic. Is it an audition? Nah - no monolog slam, or need to be "on." You didn't even have to sign up for "Speed Dating" to party with us.

Joel Jules honks the end of a 3-minute date, while TRU Treasurer Courtney Sweeting looks on. Speechless.

Dating Sponsors on the left (front to back): agent Sue Winik, Matt Jared of the Network, Paula Riley, Leslie Darhonsoff, the top of Lisa Gold's head, and the back of Kevin Urban's. Speed dating actors on the right.

Techno-savvy TRU Prez Bob Ost timing one of the 44 dates.

Lisa Gold of The Actors Connection hooking up with TRU member Chris Heffron. (Don't tell Rachel.)

But it was a chance to introduce yourself to our ten sponsoring hosts (including agents Casey Ross and Sue Winik) and spend three minutes getting to know each other before moving on. Just like real life. (Instead of flowers, our sponsors will woo you with special discount offers.) Click here for the lineup of sponsors. And thank our sponsoring hosts for covering our costs so we can make this absolutely FREE for all our actor friends.

Threesome? Nah, Small Pond's Mike Roderick
offering tips to Patricia Runcie and Jeffrey Rice
(who helped us time one round of dates... so he didn't have to be a two-timer)
Dating sponsors along the right wall: photographer Lee Anne Simms (back to us), Laurie Eliscu (top of head) and Penelope Brackett (back to us).

Sooo... how ya doin'? Coach Laurie Eliscu on a date.

ABOUT SPEED DATING. How does it work? Okay. There are ten stations each manned by a sponsor who offers you a service. We put you in a group of ten, each of you starts at a different station. You spend three minutes finding out about your "date." Or telling them about yourself. Or asking for advice. Or cvetching. It's your three minutes. We let you know when 30 seconds remain, and then we let you know when three minutes are up and you have to move to the next station. As a thank you, your "date" will give you a coupon for a discount or special offer (these offers are given only to people who go through Speed Dating.) At the end of a thirty minute (approx) circuit, we bring in the next group of ten. While you're waiting, you can drink and socialize. Or primp for your date.

We will also be offering headshot/resume evaluations and consultations with TRU Casting Director Catherine Lamm. Plus a series of brief talks about audition tips and etiquette.

LISA GOLD, Actors Connection - Having grown up in the south with a comedian father, Lisa was encouraged to pursue show business and is now considered one of the leading authorities in the New York area on what it takes to be a successful actor in this often insecure industry.  Becoming a business owner with the purchase of a small mom and pop company called Actors Connection in 2000, she began to learn the “inside” secrets and ways of business that were hidden from view as an actress/singer.  Growing Actors Connection to the #1 networking/ educational facility of its kind, the business today is a testament to the need and desire of actors wanting this vital information on what it takes to “make it” in this business.   Her underlying purpose in everything she does is to end the “Starving Artist” syndrome by aligning with like-minded individuals and entities who believe that the person creating the art should be handsomely compensated for it and not just the business people behind it doing well. Teaching and speaking throughout the U.S. at college campuses, private acting studio programs, the public library system or just about anywhere there is a need, Lisa gives practical advice and useful information on where to start once you’re out of school.  It’s called show BUSINESS folks!

MOTO ISHIBASHI (Precision Photos house photographer) - "I have been shooting headshots since 1998. In addition, I photograph fashion events, concerts, and productions stills. For over 10 years I have worked as a lighting technician for Theater, Film and TV, and through my experiences I know what the industry is looking for. It will be my pleasure to help you get the right headshot for your great acting career!!"

As Artistic Director, Michael has produced over 30 shows since his arrival in NY in September 2002.
